Åke Cummings (he/him)

Dog Training Instructor
Åke is the owner and head trainer at DogWorks, delivering group classes and one-to-one training across Jersey.
A full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT UK), Åke is committed to evidence-based, ethical training methods that prioritise both learning and welfare.
Alongside ongoing professional development, Åke is currently studying the Aggression in Dogs Master Course with internationally recognised trainer and aggression specialist Michael Shikashio. This advanced programme reflects a particular interest in reactivity, aggression, and helping guardians better understand the emotional drivers behind their dog's behaviour.
Having shared life with working-line spaniels, a German Shepherd Dog, and foster dogs, Åke has extensive experience living with energetic, intelligent dogs that require more than just exercise. This practical experience shapes a training approach that focuses on meeting dogs' behavioural needs while helping guardians develop clear communication, confidence, and realistic expectations.
At the heart of DogWorks is a simple belief: successful training is not about controlling dogs. It is about building understanding, trust, and cooperation so that both dog and guardian can enjoy life together.
